Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest peak (4,566m), located in Arusha National Park. This 4-day climb offers a great mix of wildlife viewing, lush forest trails, and exciting ridgeline paths that lead to the summit. The route is quiet, making it ideal for travelers looking for a peaceful trekking experience. Along the way, you’ll see giraffes, buffalos, zebras, and more before climbing to the crater rim and summit for clear views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding plains.

Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)
After breakfast, drive to Arusha National Park. Begin the trek with an armed ranger through the forest, with chances to spot wildlife. The trail winds through montane forest to Miriakamba Hut.
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Overnight: Miriakamba Hut


Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut (3,570m)
Today’s trail moves through forest and heath zones with excellent views of Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. Afternoon hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for acclimatization.
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Saddle Hut


Day 3: Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak (4,566m) – Miriakamba Hut
Start very early to reach the summit for sunrise. The trail passes Rhino Point and follows a narrow path along the ridge to Socialist Peak. After enjoying the views, descend back to Miriakamba Hut.
Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
Overnight: Miriakamba Hut


Day 4: Miriakamba Hut – Momella Gate – Arusha
After breakfast, descend through forest paths to the park gate where your vehicle will be waiting for the transfer back to Arusha.
Hiking Time: 2–3 hours
