Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and offers a great trekking experience with fewer crowds. Located inside Arusha National Park, the trail begins in the forest, where wildlife like giraffes, zebras, and buffalo can be seen along the way. This trek is a great option for hikers looking for a challenge or preparing for Mount Kilimanjaro. The route is steep but rewarding, with views of Mount Kilimanjaro from the summit on clear mornings.

Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)
After breakfast, drive from Arusha to Momella Gate where the climb begins. Hike through forest trails with a park ranger and spot wildlife on the way.
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Overnight at Miriakamba Hut

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut (3,570m)
Climb up through a mix of forest and moorland. In the afternoon, hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for acclimatization.
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Overnight at Saddle Hut

Day 3: Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak (4,566m) – Miriakamba – Momella Gate – Arusha
Very early morning start to reach the summit at sunrise. After enjoying the view, descend back to the gate for pick-up and transfer to Arusha.
Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
