This 6-day safari combines birdwatching with wildlife viewing across four famous national parks in northern Tanzania. From the forests and lakes of Arusha National Park to the dry lands of Tarangire, the water-rich Lake Manyara, and the Ngorongoro Crater, this tour is full of different birds and animals. You’ll have time to enjoy birds like flamingos, turacos, hornbills, storks, and eagles while also spotting lions, elephants, zebras, and more. It’s a well-rounded experience for travelers who love both birds and African wildlife.
Day 1: Arusha National Park
After breakfast, drive to Arusha National Park for a full day of birding and wildlife watching. The park is home to forest birds like the narina trogon and Hartlaub’s turaco, along with giraffes and monkeys. Enjoy a guided walk near Momella Lakes and the forest.
Overnight in Arusha.
Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Travel to Tarangire, one of the top birding spots in the country. Watch for raptors, lovebirds, bee-eaters, and hornbills among the baobabs and near the river. Animals like elephants and zebras are often seen too.
Overnight at lodge/campsite near Tarangire.
Day 3: Tarangire – Lake Manyara National Park
Drive to Lake Manyara after breakfast. Explore the forest and lakeside areas where you may see pelicans, flamingos, kingfishers, and crowned eagles. Tree-climbing lions and baboons are also common in this park.
Overnight at lodge/campsite near Lake Manyara.
Day 4: Lake Manyara – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Today you head towards Ngorongoro, with some birding stops along the way. The area around the crater rim is great for spotting forest species like the white-eyed slaty flycatcher and green pigeons.
Overnight near Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
Spend the day in the Ngorongoro Crater, known for both birdlife and large game. Inside the crater you can find kori bustards, secretary birds, ostriches, and water birds along the lake. Also expect to see rhinos, lions, buffalo, and hyenas.
Overnight near Ngorongoro or back in Karatu.
Day 6: Return to Arusha
After a relaxed breakfast, drive back to Arusha. Drop-off at your hotel or the airport, depending on your schedule.
