The Umbwe Route is known for being the steepest and most direct way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s a challenging trail with fewer climbers, offering a true test of endurance. Though it connects with the popular Machame route after the second day, its early sections go straight up through the forest and ridges. This route is best for fit and experienced trekkers looking for a tough but rewarding climb.
